Element 25 sets eyes on EV cathode market with Butcherbird stage 1 commissioning

As E25 delivers first stage development of its Butcherbird Project, the exploration company inches closer to being the world’s first supplier of carbon-free manganese for EV cathode manufacture.

Element 25 Limited (ASX:E25) announced today that it is closing in on the first stage of a planned multi-stage development at its wholly owned Butcherbird Project.

The Butcherbird Project is the Company’s 100% owned manganese resource with current JORC resources in excess of 263 Mt of manganese ore.

“To deliver a mining project in such a short timeframe whilst maintaining a high level of safety and cost control is a fantastic achievement by the team,” said E25 Managing Director Justin Bown.

According to E25, the multi-stage development strategy for the project will drive the production of high purity manganese sulphate monohydrate, an essential component in manufacturing electric vehicle (EV) batteries.

With potential nickel and cobalt supply constraints looming over the horizon, battery manufacturers are now looking at high manganese cathodes as an alternative to produce the cathode material used in electric vehicles.

E25 plans to position itself as a leading manganese supplier of the world’s first Zero Carbon Manganese™ for EV cathode manufacture.

“This is an important first step in the development of the Project which can then be expanded into the battery metals markets,” Brown added.

Dry commissioning under the current work plan is scheduled for the first half of March 2021, followed by wet commissioning and first ore processing in the second half of the month.
