3rd International Future Mining Conference kicks off in Sydney

If you want to learn how robotics is incorporated in mining and how we plan to capture asteroids to start mining in space, the 3rd International Future Mining Conference in Sydney is the place to be these couple of days.

The 3rd International Future Mining Conference kicked off yesterday and will run until tomorrow at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney.

Aside from showcasing the latest innovations and technological advancements in the minerals industry, the conference will serve as a platform for discussions of key topics such as autonomous mining, emerging exploration technologies, new commodities, high-tech mining equipment, and missions to capture asteroids and extract fuel for satellites and so on.

Some of the most prominent senior mining executives, engineers and scientists will take the stage during this two day event. These include:

  • René Fradet, Deputy Director, Engineering & Science Directorate, NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (USA)
  • Nick Holland, CEO, Gold Fields (South Africa)
  • Craig Stegman, Chief Growth and Innovation Officer – Copper & Coal, Rio Tinto (Australia)
  • James D. Humphrey, Senior Mining Markets – Global Mining Division, Caterpillar (USA)

Key topic to be discussed include: types of new minerals that will bring wealth in the future; how global warming and climate change will affect the industry; mining in environmentally sensitive areas; revolutionary mining technologies and so on.

In the meantime, at the 2nd Off-Earth Mining Forum, which is being held concurrently at the same venue, space mining companies, engineers and scientists will discuss what is currently being done to ensure the feasibility and future of mining in space.

Delegates from over 10 countries and representatives from 40 companies are expected to attend the event.
