Under the first phase of the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, sixteen projects have been shortlisted, with a combined capacity to supply electricity to over 1.6 million homes.
AEMO Services will now evaluate competitive offers for over 4.3GW of generation and long-term storage for their ability to provide NSW residents and companies with long-term financial benefits.
Treasurer and Energy Minister Matt Kean said investor interest in the roadmap has been enormous.
“This is a promising start to the $32 billion in private capital we expect to see through our 10-year schedule of rolling competitive tenders,” Minister Kean stated.
According to Minister Kean, the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap will guarantee homes and businesses access to clean, reliable, and more affordable electricity for decades to come.
Following the evaluation of the proposals, successful applicants will be given long-term energy service agreements that will support the modernisation of the State’s electrical infrastructure.
Shortlisted projects must submit financial value bids by 10 February.
The NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap is the NSW Government‘s strategy to change the electricity system by 2030 by constructing at least 12GW of renewable energy and 2GW of long-duration storage such as pumped hydro.
