Global technology solutions giant Fujitsu has unveiled its new Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) shared operating platform that will support the food distribution industry.
Developed as part of an initiative led by the Japan Processed Foods Wholesalers Association and Japan Inforex, Inc. (JII), the EDI shared operating platform was deployed on 1 October to help Japan-based food distribution companies standardise operations.
Standardising operations in the industry can help distributors reduce system development costs and respond faster to legal revisions.
The Japan Processed Foods Wholesalers Association first announced the initiative earlier this year, which was followed by a basic agreement between JII and affiliated food wholesalers aimed at promoting the introduction of a standardised format based on an EDI shared operating platform and Distribution Business Message Standards.
Establishing efficient communications with partners, customers, and suppliers is an important task for businesses in the food distribution industry.
The EDI platform developed by Fujitsu is designed to enable food distributors to jointly use functions common to different food wholesalers, thereby supporting businesses in reducing costs and workloads related to system development and legal revisions.
The company plans to introduce the new EDI solution to businesses in the food delivery industry, promote standardised formats and operations and work together with the Japan Food Industry Association, JII and food wholesalers to help address problems in the food distribution industry and promote digital transformation.
